Unions Agree New Model Appraisal and Capability  Procedures

Lancashire teacher unions have agreed Appraisal and Capability Procedures with Lancashire County that are broadly in line with their own joint model policies.

This shows the benefit of cooperation, as Michael Gove's blatant attempt to get schools to take a punitive attitude to teachers has been ignored and a less confrontational approach adopted.

Sam Ud-din (Divisional Secretary) commented that, "This means that no school in Lancashire should be implementing its own policy.  If your governors are updating their procedures make sure that they are using the Lancashire Model."   Click here to contact your local secretary if this is not the case in your school.

He also commented that if schools wish to go it alone and try to implement unfair appraisal and capability procedures, then "Lancashire NUT will give its full support to action in any school where punitive policies are proposed".

Lancashire NUT hopes that the good relationships between it and the Lancashire County Council, both with its officers and its councillors, continues to the mutual benefit of all.

Click here to access the joint unions' model procedures and loads of other info on our national site - especially the Observation protocols. County HR have agreed to review the procedures in a year and add an observation policy , if needed - let us know if you want it added.

We will not publish the policy here out of respect for Lancashire Council's intellectual property rights.  It is accessible via Lancashire County Council's HR portal.
