Living Through the Holocaust – Teaching Resources for Secondary Schools by Hyndburn Ribble Valley

.
.
The NUT, through Lancaster & Morecambe Trades’ Council, is proud to be working with the local Holocaust Memorial Day steering group and gladly hosts the teaching resources below that we would like to make available to all secondary schools in Lancashire – and beyond.

In 2013-14 a video commissioned by NCBI Lancashire was produced by film makers Alison Cahn and Frances Bowen, with notes by Andy East. They worked with Stephen Breuer, who, having lived through the Holocaust, has willingly over many years visited schools in the Lancaster area, where he lives, to describe some of his experiences and, perhaps, teach a few lessons to the next generations.

In 2014-15 a Booklet, called “From Generation to Generation – The Impact of the Holocaust on the Lancaster District”  was produced by the Lancaster HMD Steering Group. The Booklet contains stories from several local contributors – sons, daughters and grandchildren of survivors – around the theme of “Keep the Memory Alive” and the ensuing project “from Generation to Generation” – the theme for national HMD events that year.

 .
.Please let us know how you have used the teaching notes and videos and if you have any suggestions for additions or changes.

Spirit Day by Equality

October 16 is Spirit Day, an opportunity for all people to show their support for LGBT youth. Each year since 2010, millions of people wear purple on Spirit Day to highlight issues such as bullying and harassment. Lancashire NUT is proud of the work we have done for equal opportunities across the division, and will continue to support initiatives such as Spirit Day.
