Thank you to all of the teachers over Rossendale who supported our recent strike action – becoming an activist is vital if we are to stand together against the cuts to education funding. Teachers need to be in charge of educating our nation’s children.Categories: Rossendale Posted: 14 Jul

Rossendale AGM Success by Rossendale NUT
Rossendale NUT Association held its AGM last night at a busy ‘Rose and Bowl’ in Stacksteads. The meeting and carvery proved to be a very sociable evening and I am grateful to all those who attended, particularly to Michelle Greaves (NUT NW Office) who continues to offer her friendship and support. We were delighted to welcome our new President (Mr Grahame Ashworth). In his address Grahame recalled the last occasion he was Rossendale President (in 1980!) and shared some of his thoughts about the changes he has seen over the past three and a half decades. We were able to record our thanks to the outgoing President (Mike Sutton) for all his hard work last year and wish him every success as our new treasurer. We heard in the Secretary’s report about the demise of the “most hated Education Secretary ever” – Mr Gove – and were informed of the challenges facing us this year. Our committee now stands as:
President: Mr Grahame Ashworth
Vice-President: Mr Nick Subasic
Secretary: Mr Jonathan Gleeson
Treasurer: Mr Michael Sutton
Equality: Mrs Claire Hewitt
Young Teachers: Mr Phil Hackett
Retired Members: Mr Geoff Blow and Mr Peter Cooper
H & S: Mr Nick Subasic
I am delighted to report that we have some young Rossendale NUT members who are interested in shadowing committee members this year and I look forward to welcoming them to our committee meetings in the future. As ever, we are keen to welcome anyone who would like to make a difference to students and teachers working in Rossendale and beyond. Here’s to another successful year!

Get ready to tell Nicky by Blackburn with Darwen
Nicky Morgan has been forced to recognise teacher workload as a critical issue.
In response to the NUT’s campaigning, Nicky Morgan and Nick Clegg announced a “Workload Challenge” consultation in England. More than 40,000 teachers responded.
Nicky Morgan says she wants to make a difference to teacher workload and has asked for suggestions.
